New Discover Media devices with USB-C port cannot install speed camera data. They are not supported.
Unfortunately, we cannot answer this question with 100% certainty. Here are three important tips:
Tip 1: Compare your device with the photos for VW, SEAT, or Skoda in the installation guide.
Tip 2: Check the vehicle manual to see if custom POIs can be installed.
Tip 3: Always try our free test file before purchasing.
The test file contains common mobile speed camera locations in Europe. If you find mobile speed cameras on the map in your navigation system after installation, the test file installation was successful, and you can install our speed camera database. Note for registration: It is not necessary to select the correct device/model. All VW, SEAT, and Skoda devices receive the same download.
We create the speed camera files with the "Alert when approaching these POIs" option enabled so that the navigation device emits an audible warning before a speed camera. Please make sure to activate the "Alert: My POIs" option in the navigation settings.
The navigation announcements should not be set to mute. If the announcements are muted, the audible warning will also be muted.
In some devices, the warning sound is very quiet and only briefly audible. Usually, the audible signal is noticeable through the audio volume reduction feature (this feature must be enabled in the settings).
We cannot influence the warning sounds with our speed camera database. The sounds come from the navigation software. The volume for announcements and warning sounds are linked. A low warning volume is not a valid reason for a complaint.
Some customers, particularly those with a VW Discover Pro (MIB2), receive the following error message.
Error: No data available.
Please insert a source with data
for software updates or
check the source.
This error is usually related to incorrect formatting and/or an incorrect folder structure on the storage medium (SD card, USB stick).
First, check the SD card or USB stick. Format the storage medium again in FAT32 (right-click > Format). Do not use the quick format option!
In some cases, the error was resolved by turning on the engine (not just the ignition). This avoids low battery voltage during installation.
If the error is not resolved, check if you copied the correct data to the SD card or USB stick. Our download contains two directories labeled "Version 1" and "Version 2." The files and folders in these directories are tailored to specific navigation devices. A list of devices can be found in the installation guide. If the error persists, try using the files and folders from the other directory.
Another possible solution: Delete existing custom POIs from a previous installation (Setup > Manage storage > Delete My POIs). Then restart the device and install the speed camera data again.
No. During installation, the speed camera data is transferred from the SD card or USB stick to the internal memory of the device.
The POI function in the Skoda Connect portal is faulty. Therefore, please use our pre-prepared speed camera files.
No. The VW navigation software does not offer an option to change the warning distance.
You download a POI collection of speed camera locations from our website. This POI collection is installed in the navigation system as "My POIs." The warning for these custom POIs is controlled by the navigation software. We do not know if the warning is dependent on the speed limit or the speed you are driving (the slower you drive, the later the warning). This also applies to SEAT and Skoda navigation devices.
Yes, on some devices (e.g., VW Discover PRO 2nd Generation), installation also works via a USB stick. Please try it yourself if in doubt.
The speed camera data is installed in the navigation system as "My POIs." If additional POIs are installed via Car-Net, the previously installed speed camera data will be overwritten. Multiple "My POIs" databases cannot be installed at the same time.
When importing the data, error 136 may appear on the screen. This is likely due to low battery voltage, such as when only the ignition is on. Start the engine to increase the voltage and repeat the installation.
You can activate/deactivate the visual display for the installed SCDB categories individually under the menu "Select categories for POIs." However, this setting only applies to the display on the map.
The audible warning can only be activated/deactivated globally by checking "Alert: My POIs." This setting applies to all installed POI categories.
This means you can deactivate a single POI category for the map display, but you will still hear an audible warning (if activated). The navigation software does not offer the option to exclude individual POI categories from the audible warning.
We provide one update per month. However, the update does not always occur on the same day. Instead, we adjust it based on how many changes have occurred and whether further changes need to be integrated into the database. If you update your device every 4-5 weeks with the latest database, you will always be up to date.
The mobile speed camera database contains common mobile speed camera locations in Europe. You will be warned as you approach these locations, just like fixed speed cameras. The locations are based on evaluations of long-term data. However, this is not real-time data.
Test whether the purchased speed camera data works with the same settings as the test file. If the test file works, the purchased version should also work. Contact us if the purchased version doesn't work.
Make sure that you selected "Show icons" during the installation process and that the speed camera category is activated under "Select categories for POIs." In some cases, restarting the navigation system after installation can also help.
The audible warning is triggered as soon as you approach a speed camera, even if it is not directly on your route. The warning is given based on proximity to the speed camera location, regardless of whether it is on your current route.
This issue could be caused by several factors. First, check if the "Alert: My POIs" option is activated in your settings. Also, make sure that your navigation announcements are not muted, as this can mute the audible warnings as well. If the issue persists, it may be related to the navigation device software, which is outside our control.
There are basically two settings for POI categories: visual display and audio warnings.
You can enable or disable the visual display for each individual POI category under the menu item "Select categories for POIs". This setting only applies to the display of POIs on the map.
However, you cannot individually determine whether an audio warning should be given for a specific POI category or not. Audio warnings are either enabled for all POI categories or for none. You can find this setting under "Setup > Navigation announcements > Note: My POI".
In summary: You can disable the display of individual POIs on the map, but you cannot disable the audio warning for individual POIs.
Mobile speed cameras are already included in the download of fixed cameras. Inside of the download file scdb.zip you find two folders (version 1 and 2) and subfolders for "only fixed cameras" and "fixed and mobile cameras".
We are providing most frequently used locations for mobile speedcam traps in Europe. That's a free gift from our side in addition to the fixed speed cameras. These will prevent you from getting caught by any of up to 50,000 traps including laser, radar pistols or other instantaneous speed measurement. The data are the result of various smartphone application reports of the past 365 days (e.g. Camsam application). Note: You don't get all reports. You only get the most frequently used locations. The total number of cameras varies every week.
