Installation Guide

  1. Please log in on SCDB.info and go to the TomTom Navigator product page. Before starting the download you have to select your desired countries and choose one of the possible options for images (we recommend: split into all categories). After that push Download button and save the file tomtom.zip to your hard disk.

  2. In our example we save the file tomtom.zip in the folder "C:/temp".

  3. Please unzip the overlay with a suitable program - we recommend WINZIP - to a target folder of your choice in your computer. In our example, we selected the folder "C:/temp/tomtom".

  4. Now the folder "C:/temp/tomtom" contains all unzipped files in *.bmp format and *.ov2 format (every file stands for one speed camera category):

  5. Before starting the installation, please check if your computer works with a current version of Microsoft ActiveSync. Otherwise load Microsoft ActiveSync 4.5 - English for free and install the software on your computer.

  6. Switch on your PDA/Pocket PC and connect it to the PC over the USB cable.

  7. Then Microsoft ActiveSync will start automatically. Please select a guest-partnership connection via Microsoft ActiveSync, otherwise you are unable to install the speed cameras in your device.

  8. Please mark all unzipped *.bmp and *.ov2 files, do right mouse click and select Copy.

  9. Go to the map folder in your PDA/Pocket PC and paste the *.bmp and *.ov2 files into the map folder. The map folder in our exmaple is called DE_AT_and_CH_plus_major_roads_of_WE.

Maybe your map folder is called Western_Europe or DE_AT_CH oder DE_AT_CH_PL_CZ_Plus-Map (see illustrations of 2 TomTom GO's). If you have more than one map folder you have to copy and paste the files in all map folders in your PDA/Pocket PC!

      or

  10. Disconnect your PDA/Pocket PC with the computer. Now you have to activate the new speed cameras in your TomTom NAVIGATOR.

  11. Start TomTom NAVIGATOR, go to Main Menu/Change preferences/Enable/disable POIs and activate the new POIs.

  12. Then go to Main Menu/Change preferences/Manage POIs/Warn when near POI and instruct the TomTom NAVIGATOR to issue an acoustic warning before all speed cameras. The alert can be set individually for each category (30mph speedcams, 50mph speedcams, ...).

  13. After choosing the category you are able to enter the distance as of which the TomTom NAVIGATOR should give you an acoustic warning.

We recommend the following settings; of course you are free to adjust the values to suit your needs:

    20-30 mph speed camera
    (SCDB_Speed_30.ov2, SCDB_Redlight_30.ov2, SCDB_Section_30.ov2, ...)
    160 yards
    40-50 mph speed camera
    (SCDB_Speed_50.ov2, SCDB_Redlight_40.ov2, SCDB_Section_60.ov2, ...)
    270 yards
    60-70 mph speed camera
    (SCDB_Speed_90.ov2, SCDB_Redlight_90.ov2, SCDB_Section_130.ov2, ...)
    540 yards
    variable speed camera
    (SCDB_Speed_variable.ov2, SCDB_Section_variable.ov2)
    540 yards
    red light
    (SCDB_Redlight.ov2)
    110 yards

Or if your distances are displayed in kilometres we recommend the following settings:

    10-30 km/h speed camera
    (SCDB_Speed_30.ov2, SCDB_Redlight_30.ov2, SCDB_Section_30.ov2, ...)
    100 m
    40-80 km/h speed camera
    (SCDB_Speed_50.ov2, SCDB_Redlight_40.ov2, SCDB_Section_60.ov2, ...)
    250 m
    90-130 km/h speed camera
    (SCDB_Speed_90.ov2, SCDB_Redlight_90.ov2, SCDB_Section_130.ov2, ...)
    500 m
    variable speed camera
    (SCDB_Speed_variable.ov2, SCDB_Section_variable.ov2)
    500 m
    red light
    (SCDB_Redlight.ov2)
    100 m

  14. Then select the warning sound for each category. TomTom NAVIGATOR provides different sounds. We recommend a short, terse sound in order to not disrupt any voice messages from the navigation program for any longer than necessary.

  15. We recommend that you don't activate the menu option "Warn only if POI is on route".

    Why?
Our speed camera database works with an accuracy of +/- 20m. Therefore it is possible that the TomTom NAVIGATOR won't recognise a speed camera because the program would assume that the speed camera is on the other side of the road due to a slight deviation. In addition there are also many speed cameras that are on the left side of the road but work in both directions or can be swivelled. Therefore, please don't activate this item and all speed cameras will be included in the warnings.
  16. Please repeat the steps 11 till 15 for each category.
